Monique Collignon

The collection of Monique Collignon was all about high end materials, tailored look and strong femininity. The formal style was complemented with satin, fur and some drops of bright colours. Collignon also showed her ability to dress the confident woman into a more casual outfit: flared jeans walked through the runway more than once and made the collection more appealing also for those, who tend to go for a more casual look.

Sitting next to us were two classy ladies, whose opinion we asked after the show. They told us they had also been to some of the designer’s previous shows. The last one they went to was with a live band, which they found nice. But what did they think about this show? “It was a Coca Cola that needed a little bit more bubbles,” said Monique Waterham.

When the runway has a surface of a mirror and the background is glittering like thousands of diamonds, what else can the audience expect than drama?

Addy van den Krommenacker definitely didn’t let his audience down. His show begun with black dresses complemented with sequins moving along the walk of the models’. All the way from the beginning till the end, the atmosphere was full of drama and high class elegance. Beautiful dresses floated across the runway with prints of city skylines and green parks on them. We bet every woman in the audience sighed, when the models turned in the end of the catwalk making the designs flow like a dream. They made us want to feel the fabric and spin around with it!

 

The collection of Addy van den Krommenacker is for the queens of the night, who wear dark red lipstick and drink their wine from gracefully high glasses. But we bet that even if you wouldn’t see yourself using lipstick, you could not but like these gowns!

In the end of the show, the audience stood up and applauded the designer and his collection of around 100 designs. Ladies and gentlemen, this designer is a man, who knows what a woman wants! Bravo!

 

Toyota's Next Top Model

 

One moment you are watching an amazing fashion show by Michael Bernaart van Bergen and suddenly you are being pulled away by tall guys in black tuxedos to be taken away in brand new Toyota cars through the city of Amsterdam. What on earth is going on? Well, Fashion Week equals glamour, and we are not to say no to that.

After a quick drive, we arrived at our destination: the introduction of Holland’s Next Top Model: the Toyota IQ. Since being a sponsor of the Amsterdam International Fashion Week, Toyota decided to introduce their new model with style. Fajah Lourens, Renate Verbaan and Lieke van Lexmond were brave enough to take Toyota’s challenge to race against each other and while doing so, do some serious shopping. Their task was to drive a route with wild curves to the next stop, where they had to fill up the car with shopping bags.   

Although phones were falling out of the car and the press almost didn’t survive because of the driving style of the ladies, Fajah was the quickest to put 40 shopping bags in her car, winning herself one huge diamond. Who said a lady can’t do two things at a time?

The day started off with a sun shine, but even brighter than that was shining the collection of Michael Barnaart van Bergen.

 

Feminine silhouettes seemed to be the word for this collection, and the young designer had various translations for it. We saw both body hugging knits and elegantly loose shirts with full tulip skirts. With emphasis on the waist and traditional cuts, some inspiration might have been drawn from the 40’s and the 50’s. However, Michael Barnaart Van Bergen had also some more playful pieces in his collection: knit dresses with inspiringly fun details such as patterns of bows incorporated in the fabrics were a delightful sight among the more formal designs.

 

The show ended with three dresses beautifully draped from elegant satin, flowing around the bodies of the models. The audience was impressed and gave a warm hearted applause to the designer as he walked down the runway.

 

After the show, we stopped Ellen, a managing editor of MYbusinessmedia, to ask what she thought about the fashion show. In her opinion the collection was nice and very suitable for Dutch women. So, would she wear the collection herself? “Probably not - I’m not that much of a dress person” she commented with a smile.

 

Well, there’s nothing you can do about that, but we bet the dress-persons among the audience are seriously thinking of getting a Michael Barnaart Van Bergen piece after this show!

Hey everyone!

Here we are, the last team of Fashion Week reporters! We are Emmi and Sarah, two fashion and branding students from the Amsterdam Fashion Institute, and we are looking forward to keeping you up-to-date about what’s going on in the heart of Fashion Week!

Although still in the middle of school assignments, this week our thoughts have mainly been focused on one topic: Fashion Week! Already when walking half asleep through Central Station on early Monday morning, we ran into a serie of catwalk images (see the earlier post about opening party), which definitely made us excited and replaced our need for caffeine.

Now the weekend has finally arrived and Fashion Week should better be ready for us! The only question that remains… what to wear?

Mada van Gaans

Mada van Gaansis a Dutch designer with a history of beautiful floaty designs. This collection was no different, her ‘fashion angels’ (yup that’s the champagne speaking again) floated down the catwalk in stunning sheer black outfits and skyscraper heels.

Odd dots of purple and orange were injected into the collection with an overall complementing effect. While most of Mada’s designs suit a fairy-like setting, she did add some structure with dresses in unique iridescent materials and several sequined designs.

Mada’s success was strongly evident in her star-studded front row. However, it was international super model Yfke Sturm who stood out; she was more stunning than ever in a floor sweeping Mada gown.

Even though I’d love to be dossed in a Mada ensemble, I can’t help wondering what occasion will come up for me to do so. As any Amsterdam kid will tell you, hopping on a bike in winter just wouldn’t work in such an outfit. The looks exude elegance and feminity, so I suppose next fashion week and a trip by metro (or taxi) will be my best bet!

Where Iris van Herpen intimidated us for being fashion nitwits, EnD cheered us up with a bit of a bounce, flirt and 80’s tune that we can easily relate to.

The pics of your older sister or even your mother that you used to laugh at, or even the ones of yourself that you have long hidden from anyone else, can now be taken out of the sock drawer for inspiration. Guess what: We’re back in the eighties!

Psychedelically coloured leggings, massive hair and even bigger shoulder pads are happily jotting down the runway. EnD provided us with a sexy show of frills and ferociousness.
